Production dips again
U.S. aggregates production has taken another dive. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, an estimated 414 metric tons (Mt) of total aggregates was produced and shipped for consumption in the United States in the first quarter of 2008, a decrease of 16 percent compared with that of the same period of 2007. An estimated 248 million Mt of crushed stone was produced and shipped for consumption in the United States in the first quarter of 2008, a decrease of 14 percent compared with that of the same period of 2007. The estimated U.S. output of construction sand and gravel produced and shipped for consumption in the first quarter of 2008 was 166 Mt, a decrease of 18 percent compared with that of the same period of 2007.
